Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey—2014 Special Issue:
“Understanding New Jersey’s Geography in the Proprietary Period”
For those interested in early New Jersey genealogical research, understanding the state’s ever-shifting boundaries is vital to finding your ancestors and locating their records. This special issue traces the history and evolution of these borders, explains why they were so often in flux, and offers context to understanding early methods of land conveyances and deeds. The author, Joseph R. Klett, is Executive Director of the New Jersey State Archives, GSNJ Trustee, and an expert on early land records. This special issue is illustrated with maps and artifacts, and culminates with a mini-gazetteer, titled “a basic guide to the jurisdictional subdivisions.”
